Developing Leaders for the Future of Haiti
Providential Mentoring for Gros Marin (PM) is a non-profit organization created to help the community of Gros Marin, Haiti. PM was created out of love for the people of Gros Marin. Our mission is to enable the people of Gros Marin to combat poverty, hunger, sickness, and ignorance in their community through educational opportunities for students to quickly grow their skills and abilities to help others.
On August 14, 2021, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake devastated rural southwest Haiti — the area of Haiti that inspired our PM mission. The larger towns, Les Cayes and Cavaillion, are suffering and will be for a long time. The remote villages that our university students call home have not received any aid. Many people have no food or water. The students’ family homes, pictured below, are uninhabitable. Their families have nowhere to go and are living outside. Omario has an older brother who is a paraplegic, and it is very difficult for him to be outside.
Both O’Mario and Davidson went to Gros Marin in the wake of the earthquake. Thanks to our donors, PMfGM was able to send some emergency financial assistance for the young men and their families.
WhatsApp messages exchanged among O’Mario, Roberto, Davidson, and Providential Mentoring board members at this time provided moving evidence of the young men’s character and concern for each other. Davidson shared the state of O’Mario and Roberto’s family homes, while they in turn communicated their fear for Davidson as the victim of threats.
We are incredibly proud of O’Mario, Roberto, and Davidson. Although they will no longer be eligible for financial support from PMfGM once they complete their undergraduate studies, we will continue to mentor them and pray for them. We invite you to join us in prayer.
On a happier note, Davidson Delices graduated on May 14 with his law degree! He is still continuing to work on his thesis and his law license.
Omario and Roberto have completed their senior year in civil engineering and are working on the final projects required for their degrees. They will graduate later this year.
We are very proud of these young men. They have overcome so much adversity over the years and have never lost their love of Jesus Christ.
Meet our students (Maike Jose Kestry Denart (who goes by Jose), Christelle Mervilus, and Karma Joseph) who are realizing their dreams of a college education with the support of Providential Mentoring
